I agree. I owe over 80,000 in student loans. I am on housing with 2 small kids and a job that pays $11.00 per hour. All for what a Master’s degree that no job cares I have. I have no way to even attempt on beginning to pay my student loan debt.

The fact that so many people have to sacrifice so much just to pay off OUTRAGEOUS school loans. It’s highway robbery what school costs! For what?! $18 per hour with a masters degree? I’m married in my 30s still living with roommates! It’s time for a change in America. No more profiteering off of students.

My wife and I started paying our cumulative $140, 000 loan. Starting in 2018 we moved from making minimum payments to making a real attempt to paying them off. We started with making just over 2k per month payments on the loans to now making about 6k per month toward loans. We are on track to finish paying the loans in just one more year.

To be clear, I am luck that I’m able to have a career where I earn more than 10-11 K per month and my wife earns 7.5 K per month. We have paid cars and live in a small apartment. We live pretty frugally and simple.

As mentioned in the stories, there is no secret formula. First of all it would be good not to have any debt in the first place. But if you’re like most students, then it’s pretty clear to me that living simply and cheaply, in combination with entering a high paying career is the answer.

Temmy, I am proud you paid them off! Be proud of your accomplishment. You don’t owe anything. I read about your job and I have met many young people whose major, if they can find a job in their field, just doesn’t pay a lot or have much future advancement. I wish you the best.

Good for you, Whitney! Without college debt you have the freedom to make any choice you choose.
