In reply to Melinda. You could always do a quick run-through now to see in TurboTax. That gives your time to potentially check your last paystub, adjust withholdings, or make decisions to make additional contributions to retirement plans if you're able to and it helps.

My husband and I have had to pay in for the last few years–in fact, I’m still paying for last year’s taxes. So I’m wondering if this year we will be screwed even worse (although we did fix our withholding so perhaps Uncle Sam will see it in his cold, dead heart to be merciful). I will have a bottle of whiskey ready to crack open along with my TurboTax next month!

In reply to Shannon. What did your tax return say when you filed it? Was it different from prior years (when you look at the numbers)? Your tax return isn't "given" by the IRS, you claim it with your return so you should easily see what was different.

My refund was calculated at roughly $1200 for federal return. This amount has been standard for the last few years because my income has not changed & I do not have dependents or outstanding debts. The IRS only gave me $400.
It’s impossible to speak to a live IRS representative and the website is of no assistance.
